SNP MSP for Glasgow, Anne McLaughlin, has today spoken out against those who use football and alcohol as an excuse to be violent towards women.

Speaking in Parliament today, Anne said that as a society we must do more to stop violence against women, whether there's football or alcohol involved or not.

Anne asked the First Minister if he agreed that "the biggest concern is not football or alcohol? Football gives an excuse and alcohol turns thoughts in to actions, but we need tackle the underlying issues that cause some men to believe it is acceptable to be violent towards women.

SNP MSP for Glasgow, Anne McLaughlin, has today welcomed figures that show there are 515 more police officers being employed by Strathclyde Police now than in 2007.

Latest figures show that every police authority across Scotland has more police officers since the SNP government came to power, with Strathclyde seeing the biggest rise with 515 additional officers.

Anne McLaughlin MSPGlasgow MSP Anne McLaughlin, who has supported parents and campaigners at Scotland’s Dance school has welcomed today’s announcement of £224,000 of funding to help provide new accommodation for pupils at the school.

Ms McLaughlin who is a member of the Public Petitions Committee which heard from campaigners said "I am delighted to hear that the Scottish Government are getting behind the dance school and helping the city council keep Scotland’s children dancing. I know how much this means to all of those who were part of the campaign to save the residential aspect of the school and I’m sure they’ll be absolutely delighted.

McLaughlin calls for fuel duty regulator as prices hit Glaswegian pockets

Anne McLaughlin MSPAnne McLaughlin, SNP MSP for the Glasgow region, has today hit out at the reneging of a Tory and Lib Dem promise over soaring fuel prices, as the SNP vowed to make the need for a Fuel Duty Regulator and the bringing down of the cost of fuel a key Holyrood election issue.

Ms McLaughlin pointed out that cutting fuel by 10p per litre in Scotland would only cost about half of the estimated £1 billion in extra revenue the Treasury is set to rake in as a result of rising oil prices.
